Acts of Kindness During the Season of Giving

0

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! We are weeks away from Christmas, and the hustle and bustle of the holidays is upon us.

Hopefully you survived Black Friday and Cyber Monday, succeeded in taking advatage of all the good deals and checking gifts off your list.

Speaking of lists, I’m willing to bet that some of you have gift giving lists a mile long. I wish I was one of those people that shopped throughtout the year for Christmas, or had all my shopping done long before December. But I’ve given up on that pipe dream, and I’m OK with it. We all have different strengths.

But I sure do love to give. Just had a baby and need a meal? Sign me up. Need some baked goodies or dessert for an event? I’m your girl. So while we’re on the subject of giving, I’d like to encourage you to add some individuals to your gift giving list that may be overlooked.

UPS/Fed Ex Drivers/Mail Carriers

The individuals that bring packages and mail definitely deserve a token of our appreciation. Day or night, rain or shine, weekends and everything in between, they have an important job.

Trash and Recycling Collectors

You can add these significant people to the list of those that work long hours, in all kinds of weather, taking care of our trash so we don’t have to. I’m fairly certain they may not receive the appreciation they so greatly deserve.

Pastors and Clergy Members

These men and women have the tremendous responsibility of leading, guiding and serving their congregations. It’s a 24 hours a day, always on call position. And I know a little appreciation would go a long way.

Cosmetologists

(hair stylists, barbers, estheticians…basically anyone that assists you in looking your best) I think the importance of these individuals speaks for itself. When you look good, you feel good.

I know Christmas budgets come in all shapes and sizes, but you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg to show someone their value and worth.

For UPS, Fed Ex Drivers, mail carriers and trash collectors a few gift ideas might be a popcorn tin with different flavored popcorn, a homemeade treat or a gift card with a note thanking them for their services.

Consider giving your pastor/clergy member a note of appreciation and a gift cerfticate to one of their favorite local resturants, gift card to a bookstore or Visa gift card if you’re not quite sure what they might like.

And for your cosmetologist and other people that help you look great, maybe add a little extra on their tip, especially since the holidays are an especially busy time for them.

Kindness matters. And kindness is one of the greatest gifts you can give to others during this season of giving.
