1

Being a central Texas native, I would say I’m a BBQ snob, and here lately I seem to be meeting more people that are moving or are new to the Waco area that want to know where to get some good BBQ?

In Texas we are known for our BBQ, and let me tell you we do not fall short. Wether it’s smoked brisket or pork ribs, your sure to fall in love with Texas BBQ. Here are a few places in the Waco area that I absolutely love:

1. Jasper’s

Dating back to 1919 and still in its original location,  this Waco Icon serves up some of the best barbecue in town. They are open Monday-Saturday 10am-2pm at 105 Clifton St, in the heart of east Waco.

2.Tony Demarias
This family owned and operated business open in 1946 and is still serving the Waco community great Texas barbecue. Catch them before they run out!!!! Hours are Monday-Friday 9am-2pm Saturday 9am-1pm! 1000 Elm Ave.

3.Honky Tonk Kidd BBQ

You might remember this this BBQ trailer outside of Vegas Buffet on Valley Mills Dr., but that have recently relocated to downtown Waco at the 301 events center. Rumor has it they will be getting a brick and mortar store! They offer tradition BBQ with a worldly flare and it defiantly doesn’t disappoint! They are open Thursday and Friday 11am-2pm Saturdays 11-4.

4.BackYard Bar and Grill
This place is definitely has a lot to offer! With inside and outside dining, a play yard with games, and live entertainment on certain nights. It’s definitely fun, but nothing beats the BBQ! You must try the BBQ Split!!! There Kitchen hours after are Sun-Wed 11-10pm Thur-Sat 11am-2am!!! 517 S. 8th St.

5.Guess Family Barbque

Located at 324 S. 6th St. right down from The Magnolia Silos. This family owned and operated BBQ stand serves up old school barbecue. They are open Thurs-Saturday 11-4 or until they sell out.

6. Mama and Papa Bs BBQ
Located at 528 S 8th. St It’s just a stone throw away from The Backyard. This Waco institution has been serving up home style BBQ for over 30 years, and I’m looking forward to the next 30! Another great thing is they are open later than your typical BBQ joint. Monday- Thursday 11am-7pm Fri-Sat 11am-9pm.

7.Flores Barbeque

While it is not directly in Waco but in the small town of Whitney. This little business has seen tremendous growth and support from the community. They are open Thur-Sat 11am until sold out, and they do sell out so be there sooner than later.Saturday special is beef ribs, and don’t forget some banana pudding! 2222 SH 22 Whitney, Tx 76692

In Waco we have other BBQ spots like Viteks and Uncle Dan’s that serve up some good Barbecue, but don’t pass over these hidden gems that most locals love.

  1. Another really delicious place to visit that’s a very short drive from Waco (when 35 isn’t backed up) is Miller’s Smokehouse in Belton. Like Flores, they rank in Texas Monthly’s top 50 BBQ establishments
