Cupcakes in Waco: Where To Find {and Eat} Them

6

Waco is now known for many things, from Baylor to Magnolia Market. Waco is becoming a tourist destination, one for discovering, with its numerous historical sites, as well as new attractions, shops and eateries. One thing attracting tourist is cupcakes. (Yes, Waco’s cupcakes!)

I am Waco-proud and I am also Waco-cupcake-proud. Having a sweet tooth is a dangerous thing. Feeding that urge, that bad habit, could lead to a visit to the doctor or the dentist. Writing about it is both wonderful and dangerous, because of all the research, of course, but someone must do it, right? Read this post at your own risk. Have a carrot in hand and be prepared to salivate.

I am listing, in no order, some of my favorite spots to get a petite, iced delicacy. Even though Waco is a small urban town, it has several frosted sites to choose from. In this article, they are all local and owned by individuals. If you are a Wacoan, you most-likely have your favorite spot. If you are visiting Wacotown, check one, or two or three, of these out while you are here. Waco’s cupcakes are a must-do.

::Sweetness Desserts::

Sweetness Desserts is located at 2034 N. Valley Mills Drive, in Waco. Your first impression of the bakery is one of delight. The façade is a window-shopper’s dream. But when you open the door, and the first whiff of the sweet aroma causes you to lose your balance a bit, you know you are in the sweetness spot.

The décor is black and white and pink all over. Everything from the baby grand piano, (yes!) to the gold étagères, pink accents and the black and white checked floors, adds to your delight and you know you’re about to taste something lovely. And, there are delightful cakes and cupcakes to add to the décor. This shop is Instagram-worthy.

Oh, the cupcakes? Her cupcakes are moist, rich, decadent, and the frosting is thick and rich and chocolaty! Or vanilla-y. Or strawberry-y, or whichever of the 16 varieties of cupcakes you chose to indulge in.
Basically, I highly recommend this cupcake shop! One of Waco’s cupcakes favorites!

Do yourself a favor and read how ‘the women behind the apron’ started her company and how her ‘sweet dreams’ became a reality. It is a heartwarming story. Sweetness Desserts is open Tuesday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Closed Sunday and Monday.

::Silos Baking Co.::

Possibly the most famous of all of Waco’s cupcakes, better known around these parts, as Magnolia Bakery, or Magnolia Market Bakery; whatever you choose to call it, it is adorable in its own right. What else would you expect from JoJo, right? Talk about Instagram-worthy. Silos Baking Co. has been Instagramed from the inside-out to the right-side-in. The floors, ceilings, countertops, subway tiles, oh and of course the cupcakes, have been subject of the perfect social media squares.

The tiny white building, turned florist, turned bakery, is a must-see when you visit the silos. It is signature-Joanna Gaines with every last detail thought out perfectly. It’s hard to remember you are there to order cupcakes because you are busy looking around at all the fixer-upper-ish loveliness. But don’t worry! You will have ample time to gawk while waiting in the incredible line. The line doesn’t seem to be a problem for most because people don’t shy away from waiting. They wait. As well you should.

The cupcakes, like the bakery, are a work of art. Even the magnolia leaf atop each tiny cake is edible and quite delicious.

To be honest, completely honest, I was hoping they would be ordinary cupcakes. I was a little mad they were so delicious. I mean, how can one women get so many things perfect? (Was she raised by Walt Disney?)

If you just woke up from a coma, and don’t know where the silos are, head downtown and follow the masses. Or Google 601 Webster Avenue, in Waco. Silos Baking Co. is located outside the gate and open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Closed Sunday.

::Simply Delicious::

No two words could better describe this bakery. The owners named the shop correctly. This is the bakery responsible for cavities and calories (another appropriate name!) in my family for over twelve years. While I enjoy their larger cakes and their cookies more often than their cupcakes, I can vouch for the name completely. They are simply delicious.

The aroma when you walk in the door should be bottled. Perhaps this is the reason there are vanilla candles?

While this Waco cupcake bakery is all business, the shop is not one to ‘ooh and aah’ over, but the cupcakes are. Picking up the cupcakes is not an event—eating the cupcakes is! Simply Delicious is located behind PetSmart, at 200 South Commerce, off Franklin Avenue. Open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Closed Sunday.

::What About Cupcakes?::

What About Cupcakes? is definitely not last on this list. (remember there is no order here!) Located at 1001 Franklin, in a cool, old building, this Waco cupcake bakery knows their way around a cupcake.  They specialize in mini, regular cake-in-a-cup size and also jumbo, in case you need more of the sugary deliciousness.

Just in case you are downtown Waco, don’t want to wait in an tremendously long line, but you do want a cupcake, this is your place!  The shop is decorated with all sorts of cup cake artwork and has a large amount of cuteness.  Sugary-sweet-cuteness!

The everyday cupcake flavors the shop offers are Oreo, Peanut Butter, Strawberry, and of course–chocolate and vanilla.  There are also specialty flavors the baker chooses (call for availability).

What About Cupcakes? is open everyday (except Sunday) from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (basically there are no cupcakes available in Waco on Sundays–anywhere!)

My job here is done. I hope you taste one, or all, of these delights. There are other fine places to indulge in cupcakes, in Waco,  but I couldn’t afford to try any other places-I would have to wear nothing but stretchy pants!

Waco is becoming known for new places, to see and do, I think Waco should be on the map for its cupcakes. Waco’s cupcakes should definitely be on your Waco bucket list!

Bon Appetit!

I was so over the top in liove with the Almond Carre at The Silos I forgot to try a cupcake! Waco is the perfect little vacation spot so I’m all in again for cupcakes this time! You made me drool…!

    • I have had theirs. And you’re right-they are wonderful. What I really love there is the chicken salad! Yummm. I wrote the article concentrating on bakeries so I didn’t include them. I should, however, write an article about chicken salad sandwiches!! Thanks for reading!
