Dry Shampoo for Every Budget

Can we just take a moment for whoever invented dry shampoo? I would argue that, for moms of littles at least, dry shampoo ranks up there with the invention of the smartphone. Those little cans of hair sorcery have the capability to deceive the world into thinking I wash and style my hair on the reg when in fact, it’s been a few weeks days. I can hit the snooze button guilt-free and my hair is in its best condition since grade school because I’m not having to wash and dry it every day. The extra time in the mornings alone is worth all the praise hands.

If there’s a dry shampoo out there, I’ve tried it. Drugstore brands, salon brands even European brands.  Some I’ve fallen in love with and some have been so bad/ineffective I’ve had to wear a hat to hide the disaster. My search for the perfect dry shampoo started when I tried a super popular brand that everyone was raving about but it literally lasted 3 uses and I couldn’t get the colonial wig look out of my roots to save my life.  I have fine hair and dark roots so I need a dry shampoo that absorbs the oil in my roots, doesn’t leave my roots looking white/grey and adds a little lift since my hair is so fine.

The good news is that my hair experiments and disasters are your gain! Below is a list of 6 dry shampoos that get the stamp of approval. There’s one for every hair type and every budget.

Suave Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo– This one is budget friendly at around $5 a bottle. I like this one because it gives roots a little lift and has a perfumy smell (so if your nose is sensitive may not be for you). I do tend to run through a bottle fairly quickly though.

Dove Volume & Fullness Dry Shampoo– This is the best bang for your buck at just over $4 a bottle, it doesn’t leave a white residue has a light fresh scent and adds a little lift. It’s a staple in my cabinet.

Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo – While this one doesn’t seem to add much in the way of volume (so it’d be great for you gals with thicker strands who don’t need the boost!) It feels weightless and leaves no powdery residue. This one is pricer at around $19 a bottle. It’s moderately (but wonderfully!) scented so could be bothersome for sensitive sniffers.

Redken Pillow Proof – This one comes in the regular light/white shade and a tinted one for dark hair so thumbs up from this dark rooted gal.  It does a great job lifting the hair and absorbing oil. It’s a salon brand so it’s a little pricer at $20 a bottle but doesn’t take much so it should last a while.

Living Proof. Perfect Hair Day– At $22 a bottle it’s the priciest one on this list but it is great at reviving “day-2 and has been in a ponytail all day” hair.

Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Dry Shampoo This one is another steal of a deal at around $4 a bottle. Minimally scented, and does a pretty good job at refreshing your locks for several days.

So head out and try one! Who knows, maybe you’ll actually get to enjoy your coffee while it’s still hot tomorrow morning! Have any other favorite dry shampoos we need to know about?
