My Husband: The Superhero Daddy

0

Long before our youngest child’s speech adequately developed, he would always quickly identify his older brother’s toy action figures and superheroes as “daddy”.  It didn’t matter which one – Spider-Man, Superman, Batman or Hulk.  One quick glance at those insanely defined plastic muscles and it was “daddy”!  Truthfully, that’s how we ALL see him.

My husband may not fight evil, jump off towers or save lives on a daily basis, but he is certainly strong, dependable, brave and courageous!

He has extraordinary abilities.  My hubby has the memory of an elephant – he never forgets a name or date in history.  The man also has some serious juggling skills.  Give him three of anything and he will knock your socks off!  He has a way of genuinely making everyone in the room feel welcome.  Last but certainly not least, he makes a huge delicious breakfast (including homemade gravy) every.single.Sunday. before the rest of us wake up!

He fights for our marriage.  He never allows anything to come between us and never puts work or hobbies before us.  He makes our marriage his top priority.

He is extremely efficient!  He showers in record speed!  While it takes me much longer to get things done, he is able to cross things off of his ‘to do’ list in a flash!

He carries a lot on his shoulders.  He works hard to provide for our family!  I have had the unique experience of watching him serve as a father figure for many more young people than just his own. During his decade coaching high school football he went above and beyond for hundreds of young people during such an impressionable time in their lives. He introduced them to church, gave them rides to practice and often made sure they knew how well loved they were. He provided basic necessities and set such an excellent example for them to follow.

He loves our family fiercely.  Before kids, there was no doubt in my mind that my husband would be an amazing father.  The first time I saw him crcadle our first newborn baby in his masculine arms I melted inside.  It has been an absolute joy to watch him become the incredible father of three that he is today.

He is incredibly resilient.  He is never too tired, never skips a beat and always selflessly serves others.  Ask any of our kids and they will agree that he is the “fun” parent!  He is adventurous, energetic, witty and wise.  He even cooks, cleans, matches socks and helps with homework!

He picks his battles wisely.  He knows not to sweat the small stuff in life. He is more of a neat freak than I am but he kindly let me leave Christmas ornaments out on the counter until April (true story!)

He is a true reflection of our heavenly father.  My husband is forgiving, kind and gentle, even when we don’t deserve it.  He looks to the Lord to guide his steps.

My husband sets an amazing example for our sons to follow and he sets the bar incredibly high for our daughter.  He never backs down from a challenge and he makes me a better person. He fearlessly rides the ups and downs of this rollercoaster we call life with me.  Every day is not sprinkled with confetti or tied with a pretty red bow, but I love that he is by my side through it all.

Today we extend a heartfelt thank you to the fathers, grandfathers, uncles, sons, coaches, and male mentors in our lives.  We appreciate you being there through the thick and thin.  You make life manageable and fun!  You all are our marvelous superheroes!
