Mama Natural: A Guide to Some of Waco’s Natural Healthcare and Holistic Health Providers in Waco

0

As a mental health therapist specializing in women’s issues, I often find that many mamas and women are unfamiliar with the growing scene of natural and holistic healthcare providers in the Waco area. For my fellow natural/”crunchy” mamas and ladies out there seeking to find natural health and holistic healthcare providers, Waco is slowly but surely growing in more holistic health options! Whether you are a pregnant mama looking to find birth options, or you are a mama with littles needing support with sensory concerns, or you are trying to get pregnant and are searching for fertility support, perhaps some of these providers will be able to journey alongside you in your unique health needs.

Functional Medicine

Sarah Campbell, PA

Sarah Campbell is a local Physician Assistant (PA) with a passion for functional medicine – an approach to medicine that seeks to find the root cause of illness. Sarah has a private practice that seeks to support adults and kiddos with chronic health concerns. Areas of specialty for Sarah include children with special needs, adults or children with chronic pain and/or auto-immune concerns, and individuals with gut health and digestive health concerns that have not been fully addressed by conventional medicine approaches. Services are currently private pay only and focus on long-term health concerns and/or developmental delays. So note that you will need to look elsewhere for your primary care or acute healthcare needs.

Chiropractic Care

Hillcrest Chiropractic Clinic

Hillcrest Chiropractic is a local clinic that specializes in chiropractic care for mamas and children. Dr. Shamonica Trunnell-Morgan is trained in the Webster technique for pregnant mamas. Hillcrest Chiropractic provides on-site massage therapy services to complement their chiropractic care. Call their office to see if they work with your insurance.

Landmark Chiropractic

Landmark Chiropractic is the newest chiropractic clinic to the Waco area. Landmark seeks to serve not only the spinal needs of mamas but also provides adjustments for infants and children. Dr. Andrew Oestreich, owner and chiropractor at Landmark, is trained in the Webster technique for pregnant mamas. Dr. Andrew at Landmark Chiropractic is also certified and trained to utilize the Torque Release Technique (TRT). As opposed to using his hands, the majority of adjustments are made utilizing the “Integrator” tool. I have personally found that TRT is a gentler and more approachable form of adjustment – especially as I often freeze up during adjustments and am very afraid of hearing the “cracking” sounds when visiting a chiropractor. Check directly with Landmark to see if they accept your insurance for services.

Roots Waco Chiropractic Nutrition Wellness

Dr. David Boman of Roots Waco specializes with functional medicine approaches to chiropractic care. As both a licensed occupational therapist (OT) and chiropractor, Dr. Boman uses a combination of approaches including chiropractic adjustment care, therapeutic exercises, myofascial release, and other physiotherapy modalities to help individuals live a healthier, functional, and pain-free life. Roots Waco not only provides chiropractic care, but also has in house nutritional therapy services. Jill Boman of Roots Waco provides nutritional therapy consultations and services. Whether you are seeking to address gut health concerns or have autoimmune or other chronic health concerns needing nutritional therapy, Jill seeks to help individuals with customized nutritional therapy services. Services are private pay only.

Massage Therapy

Gracie Arias, LMT of Wacotown Massage seeks to support mamas of all ages. As a mama herself, Gracie is passionate about providing massage therapy to pregnant and postpartum mamas and views massage as a natural and holistic approach to healing mamas. In fact, upon appointment with current, established clients, Gracie can provide home-based postpartum massage therapy services to mamas! Massage Therapy & Yoga

Free Spirit Bodyworks

Kendra Dawn, LMT, CPT, RYT has been practicing massage since 1999. As a seasoned massage therapist, you will find Kendra tailoring your massage with a combination of advanced manual techniques, which may include massage cupping, myofascial release, dynamic stretching, aromatherapy and trigger point work. Alongside Swedish massage services, Kendra also now provides Thai massage services, in which you remain fully clothed on a mat on the floor. I have personally found Thai massage to be even more relaxing than Swedish massage as more parts of your body can be addressed in Thai massage. For those whom enjoy stretching and/or yoga, Thai massage integrates similar techniques throughout the massage. Kendra is both a licensed massage therapist AND a yoga instructor. So you can also book private individual, couple’s, and/or group yoga services with Kendra.

Bonnie Finch Bodyworks

Bonnie Finch is a Licensed Massage Therapist whom is also a 500-hour certified and Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT). Bonnie specializes in Yin, adaptive Yoga, and yoga for trauma recovery. As a massage therapist, Bonnie provides therapeutic Swedish massage that targets pain and helps you to develop relaxation. Alongside her massage therapy services, Bonnie also provides facial services that utilize massage and aromatherapy and has private group yoga services. I can attest to Bonnie’s private group yoga services, not only because I have attended many of Bonnie’s group yoga classes before, but also because I previously hired Bonnie to lead a private group yoga session for my friend’s bachelorette party! For many of my friends, this was perhaps their first group yoga session yet Bonnie met each person where they were at – with each of their different yoga levels.

Cecelia Feazell is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200) and Certified Pilates Instructor (500 hr) that is trained in Aston Kinetics, Chinese Medicine in Yoga, and additional body and breathwork techniques to help support women in their health. *Please note that none of these practitioners have paid me to review them and that this is an in-comprehensive guide to holistic health practitioners in the Waco area. I have either networked in-person with these practitioners before, have heard of their services from other mamas and women who utilized their services, and/or have personally utilized their services.
