Mommy and Son Dates in Wacotown

1

One of my absolute favorite things to do is spend time with my son, Harrison. Our mommy and son dates may not involve pedicures, but there are plenty of fun hangouts in Waco for us boy moms to enjoy! I asked my little man what he likes to do during our special times together and he helped me put together a great list!

Skate Waco

This is something we’ve just started doing together, and it’s a blast! To be honest, it has been YEARS since I’ve been roller skating, so I thought I’d spend more time picking myself up off the rink floor than skating. But to my surprise, it all came back-just like riding a bike! Skate rental (roller and inline) is available, or you can bring your own skates. We have TWO Waco locations, Skate World and Skate Country, and both have skating, arcade and token games and laser tag. Bonus: the Skate Country location has an indoor playground!

Mayborn Museum and Mamaka Bowls

We’ve had a membership to the Mayborn Museum for a while, so it’s always at the top of our list, but Mamaka Bowls just opened in Waco! After checking out the latest exhibit at the Mayborn, head down the road to Mamaka Bowls for a smoothie bowl, smoothie or specialty coffee. They even have dairy-free options!

Magnolia Market

I have friends that live in Waco and have never set foot on the grounds of Magnolia Market. I get it. Tourists and traffic can be scary. However, that lawn is a play magnet for my son. Add giant Jenga blocks, corn hole, soccer balls to kick around and kids to meet from all over the country and Harrison is pretty much in heaven. And a bag of Chuck’s buttered popcorn and mason jar of Alabama sweet tea makes it the best day ever! Pro tip: Go early in the day. And if you have free time during the week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are typically SFL. (Safe for Locals)

Lunar Mini Golf at Richland Mall

Indoor, glow-in-the-dark miniature golf. Need I say more?

Waco Paddle Company

This is actually on my bucket list to do with Harrison this season. He’s gone kayaking with dad a few times, but I’m ready for my turn! Now that it’s spring and we haven’t hit summer yet, this seems like the perfect time to spend some time on the Brazos. Weather permitting, they should open sometime in March. And I’m certain including a trip to Sub Zero Nitrogen Ice Cream, one of his favorite ice cream spots will guarantee a wonderful time!

Fabled Bookshop and Cafe and Union Hall

Why not make it a downtown date and visit Fabled Bookshop? Their children’s area is dreamy and Harrison always finds a book he can get lost in. And there are plenty of books for the mamas to browse. Then make your way to Union Hall, where there is just about something for everyone. Harrison has decided his favorite drink is a dirty horchata from Kurbside Coffee. Just to be clear, he does not get his own highly caffeinated beverage. I order one for myself and “share” a few sips.

This is definitely not an exhaustive list of things to enjoy in Waco. Hopefully, I’ve given you some ideas of ways to spend quality time with your sons. And mamas, please share some of your family favorites!

Camille Wilder moved to Waco from Fort Worth in 2017, and figures after living in Texas for over 20 years and marrying a native, she can officially be called a Texan. She's been married to her dream guy, Chris, for over 18 years and is blessed with three amazing kids: a bonus son, Addison, bonus daughter, Alexandra and her sweet son, Harrison. In her spare time, Camille enjoys yoga, hanging out with her family, trying out new recipes, baking goodies and sharing them with friends and eating lots of chips and queso, which she believes could totally be considered a food group.
