“Play is our brain’s favorite way of learning.” -Diane Ackerman
Primrose is not your average “daycare”! It truly operates like a school, but offers so much more! I can’t begin to describe the genuine love and compassion the staff and teachers have for each child who walks through the entrance of our farmhouse school (it’s quite cute, I must add)! What a blessing it has been to my family and to many others. However, it’s not just been the caring characteristics that led my family to Primrose…
Part of the eye appeal of choosing Primrose as the establishment of care for our children was the balanced learning approach, especially through the world of play (side note, I’m a play therapist and play is very profound on a child’s overall development). The collaborative curriculum they offer allows children to learn and practice concepts in language literacy, science, technology, engineering, creative arts, and math (STEAM); social studies, music, physical development and health; compassion, kindness and life skills. Experts agree play-based learning is key and the impacts of play are even greater with adult-child interaction through play. Primrose prides themselves on teacher to child interactions in the classroom, specifically highlighting free play, guided play, games, and direct instructions. It’s also very important to them to have parent involvement at home with learning, where they’ve incorporated the OG reading bag and Molly math bag to be sent home periodically. It’s a gift to be a part of my girl’s learning journey and what a blessing now to have more opportunities with the Primrose at Home Kit, powered by Fisher Price. Primrose has joined forces with the ever-so-popular toy corporation, Fisher Price! Because of their generosity, they have created a new space for parent-child learning at home!
Every Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten child at Primrose School of Waco received Primrose Erwin (a signature puppet from the Primrose family), Primrose Harmony & Heart music, along with ‘Don’t Paint Your Friends Book’. Fisher Price included Code ‘n Learn Kinderbot (a REALLY cool learning Robot), and a Doodle Pro Super Stamper-pretty neat! Even my oldest daughter who is now in public school, loooooves the entire kit! Both girls are very fascinated with having something new to get their hands on and it is also enriching their little sponge-like minds! Through research they found the significance of ‘purposeful play’ is at the heart of learning. When teachers and parents encourage children to play together, they build language skills and social and emotional strengths that set them up to succeed at school. Toy based learning provides attributes of keeping children engaged, encourages problem-solving, enhances sensory stimulation, teaches academic learning, encourages independence, aids in physical development, fosters connection and trust, teaches emotional intelligence, and makes family time more fun!
As a working mom, there’s a part of guilt that comes for not being home full-time or part-time and being able to guide them through all the learning milestones, but I am so grateful Primrose decided to land in Waco, Texas. Our oldest started when she was 3 at the time they opened their doors and my youngest has been there since 10 months. They both have had impactful learning and it’s been a joy to watch them grow! Thank you Primrose for the unique art of learning your curriculum provides and for the ability to engage in the learning process from home! If you’re in the area and looking for high quality care and education, I can promise you your child will be more than ready for Kindergarten when that time comes!
