Veteran, I see you.

I see you, young soldier. . . . .

As you take the long trip back home to your family after months and months of war, wondering how you can possibly return back to “normal” life after what you have been through.

I see you, young seaman. . . . .

When you break down in sadness over the trauma you experienced overseas.

I see you, military spouse. . . . .

And the sacrifices YOU make so that your husband or wife can stay focused and fight strong for our country.

I see you, young airman. . . . .

In that bittersweet moment when you meet your newborn baby through a computer screen.

I see you, KIA (killed in action) soldier . . . .

And all I can say is THANK YOU.

I see you, retired marine . . . .

Years spent in the military, working hard to provide for your family through all the sacrifices that you were willing to make.

I see you, injured veteran. . . .

When you wonder if it was worth the sacrifice when that very sacrifice brought you home broken.  And then you realize it WAS.

I see you, homeless veteran . . . .

When you feel like no one sees you.  You just long to be known.

I see you, Vietnam veteran. . . .

Advanced in years, but so wise at heart.  You were spat upon and protested against when you returned from war, but now you are praised for your courage.  Still feeling the pains of the past that never completely leave your memory.  Tired body, but with a heart full of pride for the part you played in giving us our freedoms.

I see you, VETERANS. . . . .

Your sacrifices don’t go unnoticed.  You are treasured, you are special and you are a United States veteran.  Stand tall, stand proud and know that you are seen.

Happy Veterans Day, and thank you for your sacrifice.

Enjoy these photos of my two favorite veterans:  my dad who served in the Vietnam war (shown as a young soldier and then with his brother) and my husband who is retired from the Air Force.
