Meet Dedra Davis
My name is Dedra and I am a late-in-life writer although I have been writing my entire life.
Born and raised in Texas, specifically Arlington, I have a Journalism degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. I graduated in 1988, but because of raising three wonderful children and life in general (and no confidence), I didn’t start writing professionally until 2014. At 49 years of age. For the last three years, I enjoyed writing for The Hometown News and The Groove, both small publications in Waco, and I discovered my love of writing about Waco. I now write my blog, dedradaviswrites and guest blog, as much as possible. I write for magazines, as well, and I am a Contributing Writer for Taylor Magazine.
I am also delighted to be a Contributing Writer for Waco Moms Blog. I most likely will be the eldest of the group, (so hard for me to type!), but I choose to think I will be the one with the most experience. I enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom, loving and caring for my babies, driving them to all their practices, teaching them about life, while being a loving wife. Hopefully I will have plenty to write about.
I have missed writing about Waco and all its changes and wonderful places to explore. Being a part of this blog and these powerful Wacoan-women will bring much joy to my life. My hope is to bring joy to you, as well.
My husband, Mark and I have been married for almost thirty years. We happily raised our three children, Danni, Alex and Cameron, in China Spring. It is a perfect place to raise children. We are empty nesters, of six years, along with our lab and two weenie dogs, known as the Weenteam. We have settled into our new title and are loving life. In addition, we will be moving to the Castle Heights neighborhood, later this month. Living in this locale has been a dream of mine since we moved to China Spring in 1987.
Together, we love to travel to new places and are blessed to do so many times a year. We also enjoy spending time making memories with friends and family. And we have date night once a week.
I proudly own the label ‘extroverted introvert’. I am content with staying home although there is another side of me that likes to get out and explore. (split personality?) I like to stay home and write but have realized if I don’t live life, I won’t have a life to write about.
What makes me happy? Besides friends, family, weenie dogs, traveling and Waco? Writing. As well as decorating, reading and food–both eating out and cooking.
My absolute favorite thing to write about is the ever growing and evolving small urban town-Waco. I also write about life around me in the hopes to enlighten, entertain and make people think. If I make them smile, that’s a bonus!
I would be pleased for you to read my blog, about life, travel and living in Waco.
