Surviving The Busy Season of My Life

0

Currently we  only have 2 days of practice, one day of games, one night of church, and one night of youth bible study.  I keep thinking things will slow down, I’ll drink my coffee hot, I’ll get to cook dinner, we might actually eat that dinner together, and I won’t have to drive the whole pack to everyone’s practices. It’s at that point I remind myself that these days are precious, and as long as the kids are still loving whatever activity I’m driving them to, it’s all worth it.

One of my favorite things about the busy season, is getting a little more one-on-one time with the kids.  I have 4 very different kids, and they don’t always share the same activities.  Many nights my husband and I have to split kids to make sure everybody gets to where they need to go.  This crazy busyness, allows more time, with fewer kids.  It’s always fun to split the kids up some and watch how they interact without the rest of our pack.  Currently I have my 2 youngest kids one night a week for my daughters tumbling class.  This not only allows for a lot of time with just my youngest 2 kids, but this also allows for a full hour of just my youngest while my daughter is at tumbling.  He takes full advantage of not having to share talking time with his siblings, and I’m amazed what all he holds in when everybody else is around.

Something else I love about the busy season is watching my kids grow in so many ways.  I don’t always get a front row seat to watch them grow academically, but I do get to watch practices.  It’s fun to watch them grow in their abilities.  Watching their face when they make that play, or seeing her get the hand stand right, or telling me how they finally hit that note, makes all the rushing around all worth it.   Seeing them make new friends is fabulous as well.  I swear my kids don’t know a stranger.  It doesn’t matter where we are, they are going to make a new friend.  They learn so much about themselves too, weather they realize it or not.  They learn how competitive they are, how to encourage each other, how to work with new people, and what they like and don’t like.

As much as I try to stay positive during the hustle and bustle of the busy season, I’ll admit that I’m always thankful for a rained out practice.
